Rugby Festival U11 Boys’ Football Tournament Year 6 had a very exciting afternoon on 10th October, when Alban, Connor, Dylan, Finn, Harry, Mason, Oliver, Robert and Sam represented Grundisburgh in the East Suffolk School Games U11 Football Tournament at Inspire. The boys played five games, winning three (against Henley, Bildeston and Grange) and drawing against Melton and St Mary’s. They were very disappointed not to get through to the semi-finals, not least because they had played brilliantly and not conceded a goal during the whole tournament! Congratulations to the whole team, especially to Sam Barr for winning the Fair Play award, and thank you to Finn’s mum, Harry’s mum and Alban’s dad for giving lifts and supporting the team. U9s Football Festival We had a brilliant afternoon at the U9s Football Festival at Inspire Suffolk in Ipswich. We played five games against Causton, St Pancras, Gorseland, Woodbridge St Mary’s and Halifax. We won one game and drew one, and enjoyed every game we played. Our squad of Year 3 and Year 4 boys proved that they were not only good footballers, but also great team-players, being prepared to try different positions to give their team-mates a chance. Congratulations to Vinnie, who won the Fair Play award, and our thanks to Mrs Walker, Mr Holmes, Mrs Page and Mrs Beckett for offering lifts and staying to support the team. On Thursday 2nd November Grundisburgh participated in the U7s Football Festival at Inspire Suffolk for the very first time. It was an exciting and fun afternoon. Our team played 8 games in total and played better with every game. Our last game was against St Pancras, who had beat us 5:0 earlier in the festival, and we were delighted when we beat them 1:0! Congratulations to Reggie for winning the Fair Play award, and to all the Year 2 boys who took part. Our thanks to Noah’s Dad for helping with lifts and to all the parents who came to support the team. Winter Showcase Year 1 and 2 went to The Children’s Bookshow on Thursday 19th October. We had a great time listening to the author and illustrator David Litchfield read his book ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’. He also showed us a new animated version of his story, ‘The Bear and the Piano.’ Year 1 were lucky enough to have David in for a lesson to work with them. He inspired us to make book covers and helped us with our illustrations which was fantastic fun! Congratulations to
our Year 6 girls’ football team, who came 3rd in the School Games
U11s Girls’ Football Tournament this week! We came second in our pool, having played five close games against Gorseland, Bealings, Melton, The Oaks and Ipswich High. There was a nail-biting moment while we waited to hear whether we had got through to the semi-final – and great excitement when we learned that we had! So right at the end of the afternoon the girls played two more games in quick succession, first the semi-final against Dale Hall (which Dale Hall won 2:0) and then the final for 3rd place, which we won 1:0 against Hadleigh. Congratulations to every one of the winning team. They demonstrated superb sportsmanship throughout the afternoon, supporting each other, listening to advice and playing wherever they were placed on the pitch. They also played some fantastic football! Well done, Ellie, for winning the fair play award. Our thanks to Mrs Beckett and Mrs Brown for their help and all the parents who came along to support us. Year 1 have been reading ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper. We
made Pumpkin Soup for the Autumn Fair and it was delicious! Autumn Fair On Thursday 12th October we held another very
successful Autumn Fair. The weather was beautiful… bright sunshine and a little
unseasonably warm! It was great to see so many stalls created and run by the
children. Thank you to everybody for coming. Cycling News On Friday 8th September Years 3 to 6 watched as the cyclists competing in Stage 6 of the Tour of Britain rode through Grundisburgh. It was VERY exciting! – and we were all on television! . On Tuesday 12th September John Stockwell, from Ride Smart, came to tell the Year 5 and 6 children how to cycle as if they were participating in the Tour. He explained that the cyclists ride in a team of 6 called a peloton. The front cyclist has to work hard as he shields the others from the wind, allowing them to work a little less hard and regain their energy. The children had fun practising this, taking turns to change the formation of their team and ride as the front cyclist. Jimmy’s Farm Trip Trip to Felixstowe Beach Quad Kids Cross Country Running Girls football match against Rendlesham The girls from Year 6 played an excellent football match away at Rendlesham. It was a very exciting match with their performance improving throughout the game. We sadly lost 3-0 but the players were all very committed and there were some great saves from Sophia, our goalkeeper. Well played girls! On Wednesday 7th June 2017 we held a Farmer’s Market. Members of the local community had stalls and each class also made their own produce for the event. There were brownies, seeds, smoothies and fruit kebabs, to name by a few! There were stalls from outside providers selling Fair-trade items, Stokes sauces, rapeseed oil (Hillfarm Oils) and compost. The children had a great time preparing for this event. Lots of children ran the stalls themselves and it was pleasing to see them working out what change to give and interacting with customers. The Farmer’s Market raised £187.39 and was a successful next step on our journey towards our Food for Life Silver Award. Thank you to all those who helped at the event and attended! School's Farm Fair On Thursday 20th April Years 3 and 4 were lucky enough to go to the School Farms Fair at Trinity Park. From farm machinery and milking cows to butchery and learning CPR. A fantastic day was had by all! Tennis High Five Netball Tournament Grundisburgh took part in the Suffolk Schools Games High 5 Netball competition on Wednesday, 17th May at Ipswich School Sports Centre in Rushmere. We entered a team of nine players, comprising Alice, Lorna, Ceira, Erica, Reuben, Hannah, Lily, Caidee and Rose. The rules of High 5 netball are slightly different from normal netball and the game is played on a strict rotation basis, meaning everyone has to change position every half game (and has to play every position at some point during the tournament). Teams were allowed one minute only at half-time to swap bibs, leading to a bit of confusion during our first game – but we soon got the hang of it! The games were fast and furious. We won our first game (against Heath B) 6:0, but sadly lost the following three games. We ended in a semi-final against Heath A, a close game which they finally won 5:3. We weren’t always confident playing in unfamiliar positions, but everyone did their best and had fun! Congratulations to all of the team, and a big thank you to Caidee’s mum for helping with lifts and to all the parents who came to support. Congratulations to Lily for winning the fair play award. ITFC Congratulations to Harry who was scouted by ITFC and has been lucky enough to train with Ipswich Town Academy and is now playing for them! We are very proud of you Harry! Netball Match Report On Friday 21 April, Grundisburgh Primary School played a netball match against Melton Primary School. Both teams played really well for their first match. Grundisburgh won 7 - 2 but Melton were a good team. Lots of parents came to support our team. Reuben and Caidee supported our team by being on the side line and giving us good feedback as we played the match. About 10 minutes to the end Rose tripped over a Melton player and grazed her knee but she was determined to carry on; unfortunately she couldn'tcContinue playing. We hadn't played as a team together so it was a bit of a challenge. We all played amazingly in our positions. LT & CD = GS MB - WD LIM = GA AJ = GD AP = WA GK = R G-M HB = C ‘Of Love and Aether’ and Rendlesham) to ‘combine’ their dances to create an overall re-telling of the story through dance. The children performed magnificently on stage at Dance East on Ipswich Waterfront, to a packed audience of parents from all four schools. The Spring Fair took place on Thursday 30th March and we had such a beautiful, sunny and warm day for it. There were all sorts of wonderful stalls, largely created by the children themselves. Everyone had a lovely time.
The cake stall run by FOGs raised an amazing £192.79. The children’s stalls raised an equally impressive £218.32. The total raised was £411.11. Thank you to the children for running such impressive stalls, FOGs and other parents for helping. The Railway Children
Thank you to Nicky Seabrook, Stuart Seabrook and Lucie Clayton for helping put on such a wonderful performance and giving the children the opportunity to do so. U9 Dodgeball Festival
We played five matches in all, each comprising three 2-minute games. Each game started with four players on the court, and the winner was either the first team to knock out all their opposing players, or the team with most players on court at the end of the game. Play was rapid and ruthless, with no let-up from the balls thrown by the opposing team, and even once a player was knocked out he/she had to be ready to jump back into play if one of their team mates caught a ball. Jayden, Lara, Lily W, Mason, Niamh and William all played brilliantly, winning three of their five matches (against Waldringfield, The Oaks and Hadleigh St Mary’s). They played 15 games in total, of which they won 9, drew 2 and lost only 4. As this was a non-competitive, participation-only festival, there were no overall winners, but the Grundisburgh U9 dodgeball squad should be very proud of their achievements on the court and good sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. Many thanks to Mrs Doyle for helping with lifts and for staying to support the team, and congratulations to Lara for winning the fairplay award. ![]() Book Club
We have started a Book Club! Children can come along at any point during a Wednesday or Thursday lunchtime and enjoy reading with others. Books can be brought in from home and shared with others too. We have some older children who are there to read alongside the younger children.
